Rebels Appear in Force and Disappear

Cananea is threatened
Arizpe Found to Have Been Abandoned by the Insurrectos None Seen in the Vicinity of Either Juarez or Casas Grandes.
Agua Prieta, Mexico, April 12. The combined forces under Juan Cabral, Antonio Garcia and Ricardo Romero appeared suddenly before Cananea today and in a short time had the city surrounded. Later the rebels returned to Bacanochi, south of Cananea, and it is believed that no attempt will be made today to capture the city.
Federal troop’s humbering 1,100 including 200 cavalry under Medino, Barron and other leaders, which went out of Cananea a few days ago, entered Arizpe to find the rebels gone. The city was abandoned and with all documents the citizens had fled into Cananea, followed by a retrograde movement of federals, who arrived at Cananea yesterday. All the federal troops are now there.
In the heart of the city is a rising mesa, which is fortified with high rock walls on crest. None but troops are permitted to approach the mesa and it is believed to be mined.
One machine gun is located east of the mesa between the two largest hotels, one to the south, another to the west. All command the city which has a population of 15,000. (...) (Resto de la nota, ilegible).
Juarez moving to El Paso
El Paso. Tex, april 12 Federal cavalry has been scouting over the hills and arroyos south and southwest of Juarez for the past twentyfour hours, in anticipation of the approach of insurrectos who were reported yesterday at Casas Grandes. A troop of 100 cavalrymen went early this morning to Bauche. It is believed that they mined the raliroad.
Superintendent George Rutledge of the Mexican Northeastern returned to Juarez today on a freight train from Casas Grandes.
Oscar G. Creaghton was seen by Superintendent Rutledge Monday at Casas Grandes, but he was alone and there were no insurrectos in or around Casas Grandes as far as could be learned. The telegraph line is not working between Juarez and Casas Grandes today. Several Juárez families have crossed to El Paso.
Lázaro Gutiérrez de Lara, the Los Angeles socialist, and captain in the insurrecto army, was arrested Monday night for causing a crowd to congregate when he attempted to hold a parade of insurrecto sympathizers in El Paso and was fined $25 by a jury in the city police court. He appealed, and was immediately re arrested on a charge of inciting a riot.
In statu quo at Mexicali.
Mexicali, Mex., april 12 A correspondent visited the federal camp today and found a whole battalion within one hundred yards of the cantonment beside the canal with no outpost pickets only along the canal bank. He also saw two insurrecto scouts approach within a quarter of a mile of the national line and ride away unmolested.
There was no sign of activity or preparation for a battle though Colonel Mayot said tonight that he expected something within three days.
In the rebel camp Captain Pryce had his men building adobe embrasures facing the river. The garrison that numbered only from 50 to 60 men the night of the battle has grown close to 200.
