Insurrectos dissolving

Warring Among Themselves at Mexicali

In face of the enemy
A Strong Federal Force Approaching the Town which is occupied by Less than 100 Faithful Insurgents under Leyva.

Mexicali, march. 7 United States officials in the inmigration service have received positive information that a federal force today was just south of Packard, eight miles away, preparing to attack the rebel stronghold. But a few of the non combatans who crossed the line, returned today, and they were warned that they did so at their own peril.
It is now believed that the federals have a better chance for sucess than in the engagement three weeks ago.
Dissension between the Mexican and American elements has reduced the “Army of Liberation” to less than 100 armed men. Desertions are constantly occuring.
Jose E. Cardosa who was named by the adherents of Captain Stanley to succeed Leyva as commander, departed with forty five followers. He said was going to join the insurectos in Sonora.
The relations between the Mexicans and Americans are constantly growing more strained and even if the federals do not appear soon a battle appear inevitable, with the Stanley socialists and the I. W. W. men arrayed against Leyva and the liberals.
It is due to Simon Berthold that a fight has not already occurred. Upon hearing on Saturday that the Americans, who outnumbered the Mexicans, had voted to depose Leyva, Berthold sounded a call to arms while the secessionists were at mess in the bull ring. He had previously secreted the arms which they had stacked. When the Americans arrived at the call they found themselves facing the guns of the Leyva adherents.
“Any man who says he is a friend of Stanley will get shot,” Berthold announced menacingly. No one risked getting shot. Stanley was arrested and after spending two nights in irons was told to cross the boundary and not return on pain of death. Stanley says he will join Madero's forces.
